South Bend, Indiana will be a stop on a race like no other! The Great Race is the world’s premiere vintage car rally—racing across 5,000 miles across the United States each year. A member of the Hoosier AMC Club will again be participating in 2022. John & Joyce Lucke’s 1969 Rambler Ambassador 990 convertible will be just one of 120 vintage automobiles (pre-1975) racing from Warwick, Rhode Island to Fargo, North Dakota. This will be the third time the couple is participating in the Great Race.
On Wednesday, June 22, the Great Race will be travelling through northern Indiana and stopping at the Studebaker National Museum for the day’s lunch checkpoint. Racers will stop at the Museum checkpoint and leave in the space of three hours as they journey across the country in a competitive controlled-speed endurance competition for a chance at a $150,000+ prize pool.
Beginning with a Studebaker Hawk at roughly 12:45PM, announcers will greet every car as it arrives at the Museum and share a little bit about the car and the driver/navigator team.
The public is welcome to visit the museum—and route winding through the city leading to the museum—to view the cars and cheer on the racers. The last car will leave the museum at approximately 2:30PM.
